A look at the FIBA Women Basketball World Cup history shows that the first ever tournament was held in Chile in 1953. In 1967, the tournament received a consistent cycle of 4 years after which the new edition of the tournament would be hosted. The tournament involves 16 teams which take part in a group and knockout type format to determine the winner.

The US Women’s basketball team is the defending champion for the tournament having won the last championship comprehensively over Spain. Also, the US Women’s team is the most successful team with 9 tournament wins out of 17 with the Soviet Union having won 6 editions.

The 15 qualified teams from across the world will take part in the Tournament along with Spain. The United States is the favourite to win the tournament three times a row in Spain in 2018.
